DECEMBER MEETING AND CHRISTMAS DINNER

12/10/09

AT SENOR~GRILL OILDALE

BARA PRESIDENT'S REPORT

From The President's Desk of George KC6KGH

Several comments have trickled thru the Amateur Radio Community here calling B.A.R.A. the"food group","potluck club",and the Sunday Nite Net as the "food net,"Simply because we have a great time getting together and enjoy having our meetings over Dinner. Enjoying each others company. Face facts, the majority of the membership are Senior Citizens. We can't climb towers anymore, crawl around on rooftops, or go to mountaintops for field day. Most are limited by Canes, Wheelchairs,an Medications. However, we're not limited by our ability to think, reason, and the creative juices still flow. So, come and ask u Questions, rely on us when you're building Equipment. We'll tell you the best coax to use, and explain "false readings" on your meter after you load & tune and then some. By downgrading the Elder Hams, verbally. And alienating oneself from storehouses of wisdom, gained by experience in the"trenches"is the best way I know to limit your ability as a decent Ham Operator. We welcome all and everyone, and the Seniors have a Home here.

Today's "Flash-in-the-pan" Amateurs that go from Tech to Extra in a short period of time, lack experience and proper technique. Usually bringing with them their CB mentality. This includes hooking Amplified Microphones to a 2-meter mobile, and asking how their signal is, going thru a Repeater, linked to 5 other repeaters, tied to an IRLP?

I said all that to say this. Enjoy Amateur Radio, and tune in to the Old Pharts and learn. How many remembered that December 7th was Pearl Harbor Day? How many of us took the time to visit with Bob KI0KS in Nebraska on the "Pearl Harbor Survivors Net" on 14.283? Or listened to Him tell of the Japanese Hitting Hickham Field? It makes absolutely no sense to Boycott those that have been there, and done that! And then tell others NOT to check in on BARA's Sunday Nite Net because they're old or disabled and set in their ways. But, that's a whole other ongoing story. I'm going to enjoy my Dinner with the rest of the BARA Group, around 6:pm at Senor Grill Mexican Restaurant.
